German is considered by many to be one of the most difficult languages in the world.

Learn German intelligently, not just through hard work

It's true it's not an easy language, but by studying it in a smart way, with focus on what's important and a bit of discipline, you can make fast progress from the start, and reach a surprising level in a matter of months.

On this site you'll find the material to start from scratch and learn German from the most basic level (A1) to the most advanced (C2), as these levels are defined in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Our methodology and philosophy

We've designed this platform to "train you" in an intensive and focused way, but also in a comprehensive way, with tools that direct your work to generate the maximum possible results for the effort you put in.

We wanted to move away from other platforms that overuse gamification. The flip side of this excess is that it hinders learning efficiency. You learn little in relation to the time invested.

Our methodology is based on 5 fundamental pillars:

We aim for maximum efficiency by getting straight to the point in the content to achieve the maximum output (the learning you've achieved) with the minimum input (the fewest hours possible). You bring the focus and the attitude.
The Japanese Anki learning technique: This technique is based on spaced repetition, reviewing information at increasingly longer intervals, just before the brain forgets it. This effort of "active recall" hacks the forgetting curve, turning learning into long-term memory with maximum efficiency (i.e., with minimal effort). A technique that works wonderfully with digital tools like this one.
A strong orientation towards the CEFR: This framework not only classifies proficiency levels (A1 to C2), but also defines objectives and content adopted by institutions like the Goethe-Institut.
Orientation towards self-learners: Our typical student profile is a self-learner, not someone learning in a classroom with a teacher. In that context, immersive techniques (which completely avoid translations), typical in many traditional courses, are confusing and often don't work. That's why here, everything is translated and explained before it's used.
Valuable content: While most courses use generic examples, we try to use lessons as opportunities for cultural enrichment. Learn the language with real education in areas like science, history, or economics.

What are the CEFR A1-C2 levels?

Since the CEFR is a fundamental pillar of how we structure content, an explanation of the six levels is useful:

A1 (Beginner): Ability to understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at satisfying immediate needs. Can introduce themselves and others, and ask and answer questions about personal details such as where they live, people they know, and things they have. Communication is elementary and requires the other person to speak slowly, clearly, and be willing to help.
A2 (Elementary): Understanding of sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g., family, shopping, local geography, employment). Can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar matters. Can describe in simple terms aspects of their background, immediate environment, and matters in areas of immediate need.
B1 (Intermediate): Understanding of the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc. Can deal with most situations likely to arise while traveling. Can produce simple connected text on topics that are familiar or of personal interest. Can describe experiences, events, dreams, hopes & ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.
B2 (Upper Intermediate): Understanding of the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in their field of specialization. Can interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without strain for either party. Can produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options.
C1 (Advanced): Understanding of a wide range of demanding, longer texts, and recognizing implicit meaning. Can use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes. Can produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, showing controlled use of organizational patterns, connectors and cohesive devices.
C2 (Mastery): Can understand with ease virtually everything heard or read. Can summarize information from different spoken and written sources, reconstructing arguments and accounts in a coherent presentation. Can express themselves spontaneously, very fluently and precisely, differentiating finer shades of meaning even in more complex situations.

The standard courses are for general learning, a learning path that step by step expands your command of German from scratch to expert handling of the language.

The specialized ones focus on specific aspects like travel or professional sectors (e.g., "German for doctors").
